Tutorial level please

Okay, so you've given us the whole setup of the game and it does play nicely, both in computer and 2-player method. I would suggest that you do the following:

1) Give us a tutorial level, explaining exactly how the scoring is worked. I knew about the 'traditional' rules for Tic-tac-toe, but the unconventional nature of this beast would need something to tame it.

2) Indications of which layer of the cube was which is needed, because when you're playing and sometimes you get the cube almost mirrored, you spin it around and it becomes very easy to click in the wrong square , giving away too many points to your opponent.

Maybe spread the 3D model about a bit more, so you can see it better, it does look a little cluttered up in the top-left.

Will do. Thanks for the review!

Trippy

Well, this is certainly a simple, very trippy flash. You've gien us the ability to move the character from side to side, but not up and down, which doesn't really give many ways to avoid the falling blocks.

I'd personally break it up into levels, allowing you to see when you cross various thresholds of grades, that youv'e given for the scoring system. I only achieved a B, so I'm not too unimpressed with that.

Better graphics, with a slightly less trippy background would have been appreciated, perhaps giving your guy some powerups, enabling him to destroy some blocks.

Coop! It's you! Up and down would have not been that good, in my opinion. Maybe in future games. Levels... levels... That's an interesting proposition you've got there... I'll think about it. The background is meant to be trippy and distracting, so that's the point.
And... you can destroy some blocks! You have three lasers which you can use by clicking. I hope that isn't what held me back from a 7...
Thanks for the review!

Quickfire!

An awesome little game that has already proven to be quite addictive - I can only get my score down to 48 seconds, but I'm sure that with a little patience, I cna whittle it down to the sub-45 territory.

I loved the feature where you could switch between the English and German versions of the song, it's a nice touch, as most people would have only chosen one version for this sort of game.

The really annoying part of the game is when you get balloons floating behind the character, because you get such a small window to hit them in... might have to refine my tactics and try to hit those first next time.

It's certainly got me revved up about the forthcoming release of Stabika 3, so it's a successful game.

Matt-Porter responds:

Sweet, then the game was successful all around. You enjoyed it to an extent, and your looking forward to episode 3, that was the main point to this so I feel accomplished. Thanks for playing and I promise you'll love Stabika 3 when it hit's in the next few weeks.

Hit and Miss

Thsi game doesn't have much going for it to be honest. I've looked and we've apparently looking for differences in the play buttons. That rules out the ones that you've reversed and changed the letter order on.

I notice that it doesn't exclude the buttons that you've orientated differently - I succeeded on a level with a button that wasn't straight, which really does mean that it's left to chance.

Meh, i coulda made it better.

Oh well.

Needs a little extra

The one thing that I can see this game requiring is a chance to see what is going on with the cat. All we can see is the ground moving and a very small window of it, relatively speaking.

Why not show us the cat flying through the air and gaining various power ups from that part of the game - baloons, jet boosts etc. Maybe have him fly through the engine of an aeroplane, to spectacularly end his challenge?

The mechanics of the game work well and the dual scoring system is a complete triumph. Height as well as length works well for a scoring system of this magnitude. Perhaps a score for objects hit? Losing points for bouncing off the floor and gaining points for hitting the dynamite and the springs?

Thanks for you comments, Coop. Those are some great ideas. I will keep those in mind for my next game... maybe a 'sequel'? :) Thanks for the kind words. I like the idea of going up. Excellent insights and input. Thanks again.

Good tutorial - lacks ethics.

Ok, so this is a dent set up for a tutorial. The tune as used in the Bytesize animations on the front page keeps it in time with Newgrounds itself. The images you used are good, but when it comes to the ethics of the process, you're a complete dick.

Trust me, my friend. NEVER tell people how to vote on this website. Star Syndicate flash do pass quite often, as do Clock Crew and Lock Legion, but that is still no excuse to go randomly hitting the '2' button for, is it?!

People must vote on the flash movie otr game what they think it deserved. Bollocks to the points that they can get, they need to come on this site and boost up the scores of the flash they enjoy and lower the ones that they didn't. Judgement is an essential part of this.

You might have come up with a system that works for you, but you should still watch the movie first. That would be like me leaving a review for this without flicking through to see what sort of trash you have talked here.

I'm surprised that you didn't try to say "The Lucky 7 Crew's flash always pass, so vote 2 on them and get the free save - that would have been taking it too far though.

Sispri responds:

Read the comments. I always watch it first.

Not bad

I've never really been a fan of dressups, unless they are uber detailed, with tons of features. This one only has one audio track, one choice of character to dress up and a cycle of basic backgrounds to choose from.

The next thing to make this into is some sort of 'comic book generator', where you can come up with a comic strip, allowing you to dress up the characters, flatten them and manipulate them to the ends of the strip.

Of course, this would require a lot of additional work from yourself to this end, as you would need extra character blanks, the ability to pose them and many more clothes and props.

Still, it's something to go on. You've got some great drawing styles for the Comic Strip, so why not give it a go?

Mercenary81 responds:

Thanks. I'm really just scratching the surface of action script, and I made this because it could technically be called a game with nothing but the bare minimum on action script. I wanted to add in a lot more to this but couldn't figure out how to fix some things to work, so i just accepted it the way it was. I had never even thought about that comic strip idea. That actually sounds like something I could do. Thanks for the review.

Concise

You've given budding flash artists exactly what they need to know in this little tutorial, provided that they want to use sprites :P

What I'd suggest is that you use more screenshots, enabling you to show the user exactly where everything is on the setup of flash. If they use it, then it has the most up to date thing that they could want for a flash movie construction.

I'd also reccomend that you import your wording into MS Word and run the spell checker program. There were a couple of errors, which the function would be able to pick up. Nothing major, but it all heps give a good impression ;)

Okay, I'll take your advice--I tried to proof read it myself, apparently that didn't work ha ha.
Thanks for your review.

A little repetitive...

It's a decent game, that really could use a little more than just numbers - I'd suggest some pictorial rounds and spacial awareness, for example.

I think that the options for turning off the music, or switching the tune are nicely done and the only extra I'd add is the option to skip the timer for the earlier rounds where you don't need so much time to remember the numbers.

The other thing that I encountered which I wasn't exactly happy about was that the entry box which has 'write here' or something similar in the way - it's caused me to fail a few entries before and it could do with something like a script so that when you click on the box, the text deletes automatically.

[Review Request Club]

MinusNick responds:

A lot of people have been griping about the text box. I'll try to figure out the actionscript for what you suggested. Shouldn't be too hard... And as for your suggestions in the first paragraph: awesome! I'll get started on another, more in depth game. Thanks!

Hmm...

Well, from what I remember of classic frogger, the board was effectively divided up into squares and when you tapped the key to move, you advanced one square, so the controls caught me out at first.

What I think we see as a problem is that you've not cut out the characters correctly, as the cars don't touch Pac man bafore he dies and he can't come within x of the mud before he loses a life, which I found infuriating. Taking a little more time over this would certainly help and if you made the graphics of Pac man a little less 8-bit, you'd be well on the way to a nice game.

Maybe you need a score information, getting you points for advancing so far and defiantely an option to turn the music off, as it's a little on the loud side, so I'd prefer to take it off. Though, rather than have me just turn off my speakers, give me some sort of funny splat sound effect for pac man getting run over, for example :)

thanks 4 de reveiw ill take those points into account wen im next makin a game

You know, I stopped shaving to think of something to write here. That worked out well.
