Add some colour

It seems like you're trying to get towards the old chestnut of the game similar to any of the meet & fuck games, or something similar. The drawing isn't bad at all, but a lot of work is required on the interface.

Firstly, I'd suggest that you add some colour to your drawings, as it will make the final product look so much better. You moving the images around does give you an extra dimension over the popular series mentioned above, so stick with that :)

When it comes to the game interface, make a box at the base of the screen, so that all conversation can take place in there, with a little snapshot of the face, showing who is speaking, plus you only have to make two or three buttons for all interaction and just copy them across for the rest of the piece - saving you time, which you can spend elsewhere.

Once you've got that sorted, develop more of a plot and take it further and remember it's up to you what happens - you might have some sort of joke about watch cartoon porn at the end, for example. Thinking outside the box works a treat, so give it a shot and we'll see what you can come up with. I look forward to seeing what you can produce.

Thanks for the review. :)

Like I said in a response before this, it was a requirement for the class that our final be in black and white. That being said, I know it was made sloppily. We were crazy rushed. This scenario will present itself again, with more animation, voice clips, a better interface and less annoying music ;) I appreciate the time you spent writing your review, and I will take what you said into consideration. Be on the lookout for episode 1, we are starting on it soon. :)

Pretty darned good

Improved playability over the last incarnation and the game in itself is certainly showing a signs of being better than the last version - I like the addition of the hand to hand weaponry that you can use in this game, as opposed to being just an archer type, like last time.

I think that you could use a tutorial level, to keep the game flowing nicely, as it does take a little time to work out the controls of the whole game and putting them up on the screen at the start of a level. I'd also set the game up with a black line across the top, showing the stats, like how many potions are left, hit points and the like - I find it difficult to look at that at the best of times, especially with the pace of the game being quite frantic.

A good breakdown of medals, much like the last game - I can certainly see me getting a few more of those, as I play my way through the game over the next few days or weeks.

Thanks, I'm glad you liked the additions.

That stuff already is at the top of the screen, where do you suggest I put it to make it more accessible
during combat?

Good luck ^.^

I'm Orange Clock, apparently

Well, it's another pretty good quiz, that I can certainly see people enjoying over the Newgrounds 'holidays' to come, especially the August 15th spectacular, that this particular quiz is highly relevant to.

I quite like the range of questions, as they do tend to relate to certain parts of Clock Crew folklore, which is always good. A shame that there were only three results available for the quiz and that you put the spoiler answer in the notes, which is a real bummer, as I don't like to know what to go for before I have a go at the quiz for the first time.

Not your best effort on the graphics, but since this is over 3 years old now, you've got plenty of time to have been able to improve your abilities, which I'll make some allowances for :)

Needs a revamp - obsolete :P

Well, it gave a basic insight into the workings of Newgrounds when it was first commissioned - I can still remember back that far, when the level icons didn't look as nice and there were half as many yada yada ya.

I think that you've improved your flash abilities over the years that you need to come up with a new Newgrounds Tutorial, or primer, so that people can learn just how to use the system, complete with decent graphics, imagery borrowed from Newgrounds and elsewhere on site. Perhaps other pieces of information, such as the special dates here, like Clock Day and a brief history of things like that?

I think that your graphical abilities will be able to produce something much better looking that the boring white that you have at the moment with this one. If you want, I can come up with some blurbs for you to use and we could make something together. You know where to find me, so let me know :)

Not much to keep me here...

I like the look of the game and can appreciate that you've taken a good amount of time to get the mechanics of this piece working well, but the way it looks, there isn't much of a scope for the game to progress in a 'level based' environment, giving a better class of addiction.

It's a nice looking game that seriously addicted people could paint some interesting looking images, using the 'stardust' on the black background of the game board, but still not enough to make me really like it.

Perhaps put the tutorial as level 1, as the option to click instructions doesn't really grab my attention and as a result, some players will just wade in blindly to this game, which could cause them to become disinterested and leave without getting a fulfilling experience.

An in game tutorial is probably a good idea, thanks.

Not bad

Though some of the levels get annoying after a while (level 5 was a bitch, as I thought it was cool to take a break, but no - you had to shut the door on me, didn't you?!) and the concept that you've given for this game has been done quite a few times before.

Perhaps there could have been some sort of more discernible plot to the game, rather than your "You've just woken up from a coma, the walls are covered with peanut oil, touch them and die" approach. Perhaps some of the plot could be exposed as the character tries to escape from this prison and as a result, there are things he learns about himself along the way?

The graphics aren't bad - just have the character made up like a human for the plot pieces, then have him represented by the top down blue circle, for example - make it look like his hat, or something like that.

Thanks for the ideas! I may use them in the future. :)

A little simple

It's a Simpson's quiz - I think that the questions could have images attached, just as a sort of memory aid. For only a little more memory used in the file size, we'd be able to have these little prompts, perhaps with some insider information, that comes with your degree of obsession with the Simpsons ;)

It's not bad, per se and I think that with a few more tweaks, you've got a good looking quiz. Perhaps put the buttons along the bottom of the screen, so that they always stay in the same place - a tidy environment and then the options / questions on the left and the helpful picture on the right.

My first Flash submission that passed the Portal! Wasn't expecting another review of this, so thanks!

Ironic twist?

I think I agree with the sentiment of the last sound (bottom right) "This is like the worst video ever made." :P

I've never seen Napoleon Dynamite, but I'm sure it's supposed to be funny in some context, that may have been lost during the translation from TV to SB. Yeah, that'll explain it.

Quite a small selection of sound here and I think it could do with some sort of option to change the picture, or if you're using all of the short ones, create your own playlist, so that you can make funny sentences - this way people will have interesting little asides that they can keep coming back here, improving the overall playability of your games.

Frenzy responds:

Lol well this was my first ever soundboard. It does kind of lack in quality as opposed to my newer ones.

~ Z

Not bad at all

I think that there's a lot less sound issues than there were in the Bart Soundboard, so there is progress :)

Why on earth did you put a picture of Dr. Nick Riviera in the soundboard, as opposed to Homer?! I don't think I heard Dr. Nick in any of those sounds, which is just confusing.

Right, the way to take this series of soundboards forward is to make Futurama soundboards, as Futurama is vastly superior to the Simpsons. Try it, you might enjoy it :)

Frenzy responds:

I have a Leela Soundboard, check that out. :)

~ Z

Not bad

It's not your best soundboard, I have to admit, but that's always good, because otherwise people would think that you're getting full of yourself, right?

Anyway, what I see here is an above average soundboard that's got a couple of major glaring issues - the first is that the buttons don't match up completely with the size they are on the screen. It looks tidy, to the untrained eye and then you mouse over and can find the edges of the buttons to be quite out of place on most of them - it's about consistent with the edge of the text, so better luck next time.

The sound quality of some of the samples that you've taken are really lacking, which is a shame. With some of the other samples, conversely, I'd be asking you to see if you can come up with a remix of the 90's hits "Do the Bartman" or "Deep Deep Trouble". Perhaps a little more work on sampling or trawling across the internet to find what you're after. I appreciate that some of the earlier recordings weren't of the best quality, but with so many Simpsons Episodes, you'd be hard pushed not to find a crisp sounding collection.

You know, I stopped shaving to think of something to write here. That worked out well.
