Funny little game

Not the best thing ever to fall through the portal, but a good start, I'll say. I think that the idea of an American martial artist actually going super sized like that is hilarious, but too short to make a decent game out of. As you've started this up as a movie, perhaps you could have continued this as such, to give it more appeal, as opposed to making a very limited game out of.

Perhaps if you were to improve the game, by having bob eat the junk food to level up and the fruit and veg causing him to level down, followed by some sort of basic fight at the end of the force feed, where bob either dies of obesity, or kills his opponent, by falling on top of them.

Good, but...

Don't get me wrong, I like this game and the addictive qualities of it - there really is something to say about cartoony graphics, simple concepts and a few mini games thrown in for good measure.

I think that perhaps the tutorial could have been a little more explanatory and when it's all said and done, you've only got 15 levels, which can get a little samey at some point in the proceedings. That said, I will be directing quite a bit of my time to getting at least some of the medals unlocked on this game at some point in the proceedings.

I wish that there was an option to mute or change the music, as those tune really got on my nerves. They were quite loud, compared to the sounds of the game, so I felt distracted by this and frustrated by being unable to do anything about that at the time, save for muting my computer, which would have taken away from the overall experience of playing the game. The pause button is a godsend, thank you so much for this!

In fact, I enjoyed it so much, I hope you make a sequel. Possibly give us some reasoning and plot, so that it becomes a story in between missions - just give us non-gamers a chance to recover our blood supply to our arms at this point ;)

you can mute the music from the options menu

Informative, but...

I think that this is an informative tutorial that can help people make a decent looking flash production. I think that you could do with making the previous and next buttons into a proper button, as opposed to just clicking on the words themselves - this can get quite frustrating.

I can see from the tutorial that you know how to make buttons, so it's going to need a little extra surrounding area, just to make the whole word into a button, which will then come along with making the tutorial more interesting and informative.

You could possibly include some pictures, showing what you mean, in places, so that the piece doesn't look like a dodgy powerpoint presentation with music attached.

Okay thank you, I will work on the buttons, my next maze game is underway, and when I am better(Know how to disable left/right mouse), I will surely make a more advanced tutorial :). Thanks again.

Enjoyable and complex

A fascinating game concept that is reasonably challenging to control, combined with being a great laugh to play for a few minutes. I quite enjoyed the multi-faceted elements of the game that you can play, combined with the way that the varying nasties thrown into play can get you in a mix.

The graphics are great, as you can see the reflections on the surface of the bubble working away, which is a really nice touch. The other graphics are good and the music chosen has certainly got the qualities of sounding "watery" and a slightly annoying repetitiveness to it. Overall, this is a good game and I look forward to seeing what else you can come up with.

I didn't get all the way through it, but after seeing the blowfish, I'd have suggested some sort of shark chasing you could make for a fun level, as you run for your life against it.

I've seen better

But then again, I've seen a lot worse.

I think that this game is simple and not very well drawn, but you have engineered a good engine that can control such a game. Better drawing skills can be worked on over time and taking into consideration techniques, such as zooming in, using a slightly smaller drawing tool to make your levels, you will find it more rewarding, as the levels and designs you produce look more detailed and are part of bigger and better games.

I'd certainly suggest that you look at backgrounds, since that's where this piece falls down - a standard white background isn't very intriguing and offers nothing additional to plot line, or insight into the levels themselves. Perhaps you could couple that with some sound effects for the bounce of the ball and then for the deaths of the ball. Combined with a set number of lives in the engine and you've got the recipie for some massive strides forward with your game.

Thanks! I will work on these things on the next game I make.

Nice little game

Vinny, you've got a certain flair when it comes to making good little games. The concept is quite simple, but it's very effective. I'd suggest that you do more for the introduction and give us a good run up to playing this piece, but other than that, it's pretty easy to master.

I thought I'd cracked it first time, but I was quite dismayed when the pumpkin turned into a ghost and got me. A nice sting in the tail, I feel and something that I probably should have known was coming.

A nice selection of music, a pretty simple control setup and overall quite a nice game.

I still consider myself a n00b when it comes to actionscripting. There's so much i'd love to learn about actionscripting.

after the Ghost... there's the angry ghost who is probably the toughest out of the 3 that you face. I will have more games on the way. I appreciate your reviews. Very helpful thanks.

Well, it's a bio collection

To be honest, it's not really that enjoyable, unless you're getting into the series itself. I think that you've done a good job with the setup - making it look like personnel files that you have on the various characters, you might consider needing to get a little more depth in the descriptions and better images for them, but other than that, it's not bad at all.

I'd suggest that you do something about the Luigi piece, which is just not needed at all. I hope it's only a folly of youth that you've grown out. Perhaps you need to sort something out that stops the sounds from that when you click the back button?

I'd have a selection of music tracks, because there's plenty of music on the Audio Portal that you can use for these types of flash.

I've seen better

I think that the drawing style was quite nice here - a well thought out concept and a pretty fun way of bringing a game that's been done before back with a new outlook on it.

I'd have suggested that you make the dinosaur faster and more responsive to the controls, as sluggish would not quite cover it. Waking the dinosaur up enough to squash neanderthals would make the game more enjoyable and more addictive.

Try adding a splash of colour to the proceedings, as this will improve the look of it greatly - you've drawn good looking dinosaurs, mountains and people, but seeing them squished in glorious full colour would be even better :)

Finally, I'd consider adding something along the lines of power ups, such as a Pterodactyl strike, where that screen gets cleared (one use), extra lives, faster movement, that sort of thing come into play - it's another dimension for the game that can bring you awards.

chesster415 responds:

Okay, the dinosaur is a bit on the slow side. It speeds up over time though or when stomping the running cavemen. And everyone seems to want color and more power-ups, right now everything is controlled with the movement speed variable. Even "Pause" is just setting the movement speed to 0. It could use more work.

Nice sounds

Crisp, clear and not entirely from the feature presentation, this piece shows that you can produce some pretty good sounding pieces, that put together make for a good piece. What I would say is that the background can be a little confusing here - perhaps fade it out slightly, to make the buttons more prominent.

I think that you could have taken a picture or two from the Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory film - Gene Wilder imagery, as well as those from the Johnny Depp film that was the more recent production of the classic tale.

The bonus movie was shocking - perhaps you need to ditch that all together, though a scope exists for making it into a platform for your latest animation pieces, with the madness style shape assassins.

I can see this getting developed further over your time on Newgrounds, so I look forward to more of your pieces.

Frenzy responds:

Thanks, the reason I didn't use one from the original movie was because I couldn't find a good one!

Needs a little 'oompf'

It's not a bad little piece and you're certainly getting close to cutting edge with the whole "interactive" outlook on the projects that you've producing, but I think that what people need is some way of recording little pieces and putting it all together, so that they can see if they would be any good at this sort of thing.

It's a basic drum kit setup, but it could use extra drums - more research is required, plus some better drawing. Perhaps they could use a splash of colour, just to get it all to look so much better? The other way you can take this of course is to make a Rock Band style mini game, where you click the drums in the right order to play a quick tune. You're pretty good when it comes to interactive stuff, so why not give that a go?

Frenzy responds:

Wow, good idea, if I can figure out how to do it properly.

You know, I stopped shaving to think of something to write here. That worked out well.
