A great little game

Well, this is a nice, addictive little number which is a great take on Space Invaders. With a few notable exceptions, this is a pretty decent parody of the 80s classic.

The aliens always used to change, the further you got into the game, each wave was different and the newer aliens worth more points. A little more thinking could give more variation, as I found it quite repetitive after the first wave.

The miscelaneous alien craft that flew overhead occasionally dropped neat little packages for use, like shields, temporary weapon upgrades etc. Maybe that would help, as well as making the turd worth random amounts of points.

Perhaps change the background, so you fight in different areas - remember, planet Earthwas not invaded solely in the state of Utah :P

With these taken into account, I think you've done a good job. A few more hours spent on this one and I'd say it was front page material.

The next game I do will have more variety. This was made just for fun.
Hopefully I'll make something better next time!

Please spare me!

I know this is quite an unusual plea for me, but you really have to concentrate on making better looking flash between the pair of you. I've gone through Wolfinator's flash this afternoon and they're nothing special, but they're all better than this. Usually when a collab is made, it's about as good as the animatiors who contributed.

I'm not a fan of this type of animation, so please concentrate your efforts into making better quality flash and getting better laughs. It will benefit you in the long run, trust me.

The jokes are old and unoriginal, flash selection games have been done before and I frankly found this boring. Show off your talents, rather than mither them in this wasteful submission.

Since GBC EPISODE 2 is out, we do better graphics, which is the main thing.
Sorry for being boring.

I'm not convinced

Well, looking at this, you really need to work on the basketball guy. It looks horrible, the way his shadow moves on him when the dribbles the ball. It's not like the light is flickering behind him, so why change the shadows on parts of him that aren't moving?

You are showing newbies to flash how to do the basics, which is good. The problem really comes when you don't quite have the handle on the techniques yourself. Basically what I'm trying to say is practice more first, before wading in and trying to teach people how to do it.

Don't view this as an attack on you personally, there are other people that do this, but if you cna learn to do the stuff right, you can create good tutorials for here.

wolfinator-x responds:

About the stick's shadow: It didn't do that in flash, I dunno why it did it here.

About your second paragraph: These are basic things.

Decent quiz

Well, it's a little educational beast if you power through the quiz again and again, to get 100%. Hell, you've actually helped me learn something today, so thanks.

The whole layout is a positive example of your flash work, though as with most flash quizzes I've seen, I find it difficult to work out if the author put the background in such an awful colour as a distraction, or just for the hell of it.

I can see that you've been highly influenced by Red Dwarf and Futurama, both of which are dear to my heart. I look forward to future submissions of your quizzes.

wolfinator-x responds:

Thanks! I never thought this would be actually that popular.Too bad the Red Dwarf questions were too easy...

I was thinking of making a Red Dwarf quiz also.

I can see why it's a demo

To me, this seems more like a fight test really. What you now need to work on is maybe a few more animations for the fights - one very wooden looking attack isn't going to make a fight. Final Fantasy has that, but it really overcompensates with plotline and FMV sequences.

Now I'd say that you need to make it more of a Legend of Zelda style walk about game, with a fight scene similar to that, plus throw in a few extras, like items, spells and level up abilities. Then you're getting towards a playable final game.

Plotline is also a must, but that will come with time. It's a start and i'm willing to accept that you're working on it

wolfinator-x responds:

I had all that before, but I lost it since I got a new computer.

It doesn't really matter because we've started it on RPG Maker.

Bitmap tracing needs work.

I feel a bit harsh when I say this, but you really need to practice more before you tell other people how to do it. I know that I've never used flash programs before in my life, but I have used photoshop. Zooming into the image will give you greater control over the pencil 'tip' and will produce a better image.

I'm not sure about the computer voice, especially if you have to wait for it to finish speaking before you can move on, otherwise you end up with 2+ voice over tracks talking simeltaneously, which sounds a real mess.

Most of the tutorial is good though, so keep up the good work.

Paragraph 2 reply: Sorry, dunno how to stop only one sound; only all the playing ones.

Paragraph 3 reply: Thanks alot!

A little short

Although this was a good flash game, I just fopund the plot way too linear and a little on the boring side. I've played games like Frank's adventure before, which this resembles in a few ways. This plot relied on getting one item to get another in straight sequence, not allowing you to go off and get other items in between.

Still, it's been well designed and put together, with all of the pieces working nicely in the end - did I hear the chime of Windows Live Messenger over one of the music tracks? If so, that's not very professional, ask your friends to fuck off for a bit when recording :P

Are you planning on sequels? This game did look as if it was only planned for the one shot stage, but I'm sure if you put your mind to it,. you can come up with more plot for Smithy and further (better) quests.

If enough people like the game then I will make a number 2 for sure, with heaps of improvements. Such as some things you said - Using your own items and not in sequence.

Sorry for the MSN noise, the MIDI too MP3 converter wasn't so good, and the trial ran out now.

Really well though out

This is a great little game. I'm quite impressed with all of this. The animations before the game starts are awesome and I knew I was looking at something special from then on.

I do have one major problem with the game - whenever you click on the "next level" button, the jelleyfish starts at the top centre of the screen and immediately rushes towards the cursor position, catching all sorts of bad stuff on the way.

Still, if you take care of that little problem, you've got an award winning great little game.

Gets old fast

Maybe using the mouse to control the light would have been easier. I played this game for a few minutes and found myself getting bored quickly - the recipie for a good game includes addictiveness.

I'm not a fan of typing games, as I do enough of that already. Are you going to try and give us more games? If so, please can you try and give us something other than a move the searchlight game.

Abs55 responds:

Thanks for the review. I just tried this unique idea to see how it works. I am going to make more games in the future and I have alot of different ideas for them so I don't think I will make another one like this.

Difficult, but enjoyable

This game took me quite a while to get the hang of - the fact that you have to use two different controls independantly is wierd. I was moving the mouse and the light wasn't moving, then I was moving the keyboard for the fish and so forth.

Perhaps it would have been better using the mouse for the light and the keyboard for the fish?

Still, you've got good graphics here and a great concept for a game. Good all round job, I look forward to seeing more of your stuff.

Abs55 responds:

Thanks for the review. The controls were separate to make it difficult and maybe if the controls were swapped around, it could have worked but I just did it this way. Maybe, I might test the opposite controls to see how it plays.

You know, I stopped shaving to think of something to write here. That worked out well.
