The ending cost you >:(

Dammit, I was getting so close to the end of the game, literally just one click away and then all of a sudden it came down to a 9/11 joke. If you were taking the piss out of Corey Lidle, so help me Gods, I'll...

*breathes deeply* I'm calm. I am calm now.

Right, it's a good little game that has some half decent and not at all convincing graphics thrown into the piece to get a more 'realistic' approach to the whole concept of the game.

Have you ever considered making an application to having NG Medals on your game? You'll be able to get a lot more publicity for your games if you get medals on them, that's for sure. If Tom is willing to let you have a higher bandwidth, you might even get allowed into the beta testing circle of friends for Medals.

The acting from Nick wasn't that bad actually. I think that more work needs to be done on the plot, to make it a more engrossing game in the long term, but it's a good piece from the standpoint of a stand alone game.

It's not an 9/11 joke by any means. You'll understand the ending in the sequel. The sequel should also have medals as well. :P

Very good

An unpleasant little horror romp that has a top down way of looking at things, plus a great setup with the lighting that certainly adds to the suspense present in this whole piece.

I can certainly say that I'll be back to this game, but it is rather linear after a short while, with getting bigger and better guns in order to go and kill harder, more powerful zombies in greater numbers than before - sadly the scourge of all FPS games, or indeed Third Person shooters, as this one is.

I like the way that you've done film cells for the story that goes along with it (particularly one of the opening shots that looked like a zombie version of ET!)- I'd recommend that you get some voice acting for these pieces and perhaps have a "click to continue" option, as opposed to the press escape, as this means that the player loses critical time moving a hand from escape to WASD or from escape to the mouse in order to continue the game - later in the game, gaps like that can make the difference between your survival and zombies getting a helping of "brain stew"

Needs work, but it's not bad

Okay, so this piece is a rather basic pinball machine, kind of similar in workings to Microsoft's own Pinball game that come with every version of Windows since 1995. I think that you need to study more pinball machines and work a few bits and pieces out here, to get it to flow better:

1) Rails and hidden areas. You've got no rails on the board and a few bumpers that gain points relatively sparsely. Adding more depth to the game would certainly help you out, no end.

2) Graphics - these games usually have a sophisticated LED display on the back wall, showing the score and some catchy gimmick videos that go along with what is being done during the game - this could add so much more to the gameplay and you wouldn't need to do too much work, since most of the game just recycles it.

3) Levels - Start off at Green Hill and give Sonic some challenges to beat - lock the ball in so many times to unleash multiball and a chance to beat the boss (Robotnick - I'm an old skool fan :P) by hitting the ramp 3 times without dropping the ball?

4) Specials - Spinners that allow you to light up Sonic's name for additional points. Extra lives at every million points, multipliers for scoring with certain conditions on the board.

5) Sound effects - try and download some sounds from the real sonic games and go classic. You did have one or two, but with even more there, it would be absolutely awesome.

Needs a little tweaking

Right, you've got a decent start for the game - it's very simple in the concept and this has been done many times before, but I don't think I've seen this sort of game theme before, so marks there.

There were a couple of issues in the start of the game - before the advert came up, you can see the menu screen, so there is a programming issue there. Exploring the Programming or Flash forums will help that issue. Secondly, you need to check your spelling and grammar. The word you were looking for in your instructions page was "explode".

I think that the game-play needs something else done to it - I'd certainly suggest that you get some sort of system sorted that allows you to move the mouse smoothly, as opposed to within 5 invisible spaces, as it makes you feel like you're playing a game of Frogger. The graphics got annoying, especially when the mouse got really fat and the screen started to flash. Perhaps speed up the game, more drops, more change of locations etc, but don't mess with the visuals. I can understand the mouse changing shape and colour, but the background was not needed.

Finally, I'd consider adding levels. You've got a high score system, so getting something like a level system would be brilliant. New backgrounds for new levels and perhaps even some different music for these levels. Cheese based power ups would be another good place to go, so that you can develop the game further.

Yeah nice ideas... if i make another one i will use them :P

THanks a lot for reviewing!

Quite addictive and good fun

I think that for a simple concept of a game, this is perfect. You've designed a game that gets points for clicking a circle that moves in an easy, set pattern at an increasing speed and you lose the game for clicking outside the circle. It is made a hell of a lot more challenging by adding the hypnotic pattern to the mix, but it still works as a game and I have to say that I did play this for a good few minutes, before I tried to write this review.

With the way that you will inevitably lose, do you think a high score table would be a good idea? It just looks like the natural progression for me. Also, I wouldn't stop the proceedings and say "Next Level", I'd just sound a gong each lap and have it work that way, with the piece moving constantly, just to keep the game flowing. It's much more of a challenge that way.

Very good

Not a bad lampoon of the original Pico's School, this is a highly similar, if not so dark version of the classic school point and click shoot 'em up.

I think that you've put more effort into getting the graphics right, which does make a difference - I just wish that the zombie kid came into the game somewhere, as opposed to just in the credits. Perhaps I was just missing something, somewhere?

With the way that the game comes together, there are a great few decent mini games, but I think that you could have spread the combination around the school a bit more, one number in a locker, one on the mirror, one benind a bin, that sort of thing. People are intelligent enough to work these out, so give them a shot ;)

Thanks for the review. These are some good suggestions, and if I can be bothered to make another game I might just incorporate them. Also, good look reaching 1000 responses. :3

These games are so limited

I'm sorry, but there really isn't that much you can do with these sort of games - it's more of a masculine dress-up game, I'll grant you, but it still fits the same parameters.

Anyway, you have put some good effort into clipping all of the sprites and especially the ones that are animated. What holds the piece back is a "screenshot" option, where you could make it into more of a comic style piece. Let people manipulate the pieces and come up with their own Metal Slug piece, for example.

Also, when you make an interface for that, a selection of 2 other style tunes (Industrial; Metal) and the option to remove the music would also be a great addition.

MonoFlauta responds:

oks thanks, all the ideas you had given me i will use them in the third part :D

Perhaps needs a tutorial

I think that the concept of the game is pretty good, but the way that it all sorts itself out, you could do with a tutorial level - most people don't read the author comments and just get on with playing, muddling their way through until they work out the controls.

I think that getting them used to a few controls and then bringing in additional foot movements would have been a much better way to get this game going, than by throwing us more balls into the mix, confusing us.

Still, the game mechanics are good and it could probably use some sort of backing music, so search the Audio Portal, to see what you can find.

So much promise...

Sadly, what let this piece down was that it appears to want to be a Final Fantasy style game, but with no real plot to it. You just go into the "city", visit the shop and then come into the wilds, to punch the crap out of a few monsters, before rinsing and repeating.

The menu looks really impressive and the way that you've got a nice selection of music is great as well. Sadly, the game graphics and mechanics let the piece go here, which was a shame. I'd suggest that next time, you start with a story and go from there, so that we can see the story develop as you get further into the piece. Mini games can come in handy here, like collecting items for people, while at the same time having to deal with the wandering monsters and level up. Try it out.

MonoFlauta responds:

oks thanks... well this game will have a better second part with all the things that you suggested and more. PS: How can be this a final fantasy? XD

Good fun and very addictive

A simple game to get the hang of, but rather difficult to master. I think that this piece really does qualify as a game that will burn a lot of time to get a high score. With the reactions and foresight required, there is a great deal of skill involved, beneath the almost childish graphics that this game shows on the outside.

Perhaps there could be other challenges, where some of the bandits are careering down the track at the same time and you can try to put them off into or some such hazards. I would have suggested that other hazards could be a lack of track or falling rocks that appear while you're making your way down the rails.

Some improvements could be made to the graphics, but this would mostly be in the case of putting things in there to stop people from getting bored. A great choice of music and some pleasant feelings are to be made from playing this game. Keep up the good work :)

ProfessorFlash responds:

That's what I hope, that people play this many times trying to get highscore. I've put up my own highscore up there and I'm waiting for someone to beat it. Now who doesn't want to beat the game creator in his own game? :)

I thought about the different enemies showing up in a cart and shooting you and rock slides coming down but that would have changed the whole game. I decided to go with what I got and leave those ideas for the sequel (if I make one).
Thanks for the review.

You know, I stopped shaving to think of something to write here. That worked out well.
