Blade or Demolition Man?

I love the way that you've just downloaded some of the talk radio skits and have turned a seemingly harmless piece of fun into a kick ass animation.

I only wish that they'd covered Wesley going into prison and handing over all of his Blade Gear and the prison guard demanding that he hand over his sunglasses. That would be pretty fucked up, considering how Blade is about the shades.

Another classy animation, with great topical bearing and a great few laughs of your own devising thrown in there, like the Will Stamper look-alike trying to get some good lovin from Mr. Snipes.

the actual conversation was 14 minutes long...i cut it down to 4. i think you can find the whole thing on youtube (just the audio).

Work on your drawing

What this flash needs, above all is more attention to detail - zoom in and use a smaller drawing tool to get a better quality image. Don't be afraid to use the eraser, as the commanding ASG officer had a pen tail on his helmet, which looked awful.

I'd concentrate on a few other minor detail issues as well - put the subtitles at the bottom of the screen in a black strip, like they do in the movies, as it looks so much better. The other piece of advice I can give is that you work on the mini-game controls and tell us what they are before we get into the game itself - a help option might be of assistance here.

The plot sucks and so did the people all acting like they've got tourette's syndrome or something with the way that their heads bobbed up and down like that. Rip off the clock crew and have a vibrating icon or something to keep the viewer informed of who is speaking.

The other thing I've got to ask is: Isn't it a little long for a trailer?!

thank you.

Happy Birthday, Jim!

Though it's certainly not your best flash for plot, you've certainly given us a few good laughs with the jokes that you've put into this piece. I think that this is really a result of your Jim & Pals shorts that you've been writing over the past year - you've been setting up one gag, followed by the punchline.

The graphics are great, as always and to be honest, I'd just try to come up with something a little longer that isn't just a slapstick reel. Slapstick is your best medium, but putting something a little more serious in there wouldn't hurt your cause as well - kind of like Laurel and Hardy

Jimtopia responds:

Yeah well, given the time constraints and blah-dee blah yeah, glad you enjoyed it though, I'll try to come up with something a little more... IDK better for next year.

Too combat orientated

It's not that the combat wasn't well illustrated or coreographed, but the whole thing concentrated too much on the aspects of the fighting, rather than the actual storyline which you gave us.

The voices were too quiet compared to the sound effects and the fight music that you used. I was forever reaching for the volume control, to turn up the speach and then turn it down a load for the fighting.

To be honest, at the start, you've got too much going on in the background, without much happening at all - make those characters do something, rather than just pose, they only clutter up the storyboard.

I'd also consider either using better prepared and compressed music files or not using such large swathes of individual tracks - 9.4Mb is quite a filesize, considering how short the piece was.

Well I did optimize the best I could...

Drink up me hearties, yo ho!

A fine flash with plenty of pirate related pieces. I would recommend that the menu button is re made so that it says 'play movie' or some such thing, as it took me a while to figure that part out. While the mini game is quite addictive, it is pretty damned easy to maintain a streak on - you don't get anything really testing, like a jump, then duck straight away or duck twice, for example.

A solid choice of tune for the movie itself and although some people's animating styles could use a little refining, the overall appearance is good. A shame really that the music doesn't quite last as long as the animation.

Certain authors could use a review of their plot, as their pieces don't tend to lead anywhere. While the pirate drawing an Uzi was certainly not what we come to expect from the stereotypical pirate, it certainly drew a good laugh.

Thanks for the review! :3

Very well writen and it made me happy. :D

It breaks when you touch it.

Hmm, a different style of Blockhead animation. Well drawn, but a little off the wall on the drawing style part of things. A nice new take on the conscience as well, plus with the subtraction fo sleep and the addition of caffiene, he actually encourages Blockhead.

Deploy test subject number 2. This time substitute the caffiene for twinkies!

I'll have to go back and watch the first of this little mini-series. Very entertaining stuff, coupled with the wanton desire for mayhem of Blockhead makes for random funny stuff.

The-Swain responds:

Heh, the first in this "series" really isn't much to look at. For consistency's sake though, I'll say that the Quickshots fall outside the normal Blockhead timeline, if there is one.

Great delivery

This series really does have a lot of good things going for it. The addition of voices only makes it better than those before. Now you've got an extra medium to deliver the jokes with.

I love the way that the hand grenade has been drawn and I'd be surprised if people noticed that there was something wrong with the image until Jim pointed it out. That's the amazing thing with cartoons - the surrealism allows the gag not to be triggered until it is needed.

The way that you've laid out the background is coming along as well - there is slight improvement to the detail, but I'd suggest that the next step is to add an extra to the next short. Have them walk around or possibly playing something in the background. Something additional going on would just add to it nicely.

Jimtopia responds:

That's a really good idea, actually. I think (if the next one calls for it) I'll have the characters be participating in an activity. That could really help out the flash; thanks for the idea.

You know, I stopped shaving to think of something to write here. That worked out well.
