Cool

Although the vocals may not to be my taste, I can appreciate the skill needed to pull them off. While I would have made the vocals slightly louder compared to the rest of the track, at least I can understand them, which is my usual complaint with songs like this.

As for the instrumentals - I LIKED them! While I haven't heard the original to compare this with, I really like what you have done with it. I can't really find fault listening to this piece alone and even if I were to compare it with the original, I think most of the fun of doing a cover is putting your own spin on something so I would probably still like this.

Good stuff.

I guess you're not the only one who thought the vocals should be louder.I'll be sure to make them louder and upload a new version later on.

And you are right, the most fun that came from this was improvising the solos.I had to get into the mindset of two different guitarists. It was a cool experience. And on top of that, this cover helped me become better at doing leads.

Thanks for the review Coop!

Great sounds!

Well, this is the sort of piece that certainly needs to be listened to after dark and preferably in a dark, hot basement. Great for use in the club scene, as this is a tune that can get the dance floor pumping for hours.

I think that the 'tinned beats' that you used after about 2m 30s did kind of take away from the overall effect - if you're going to use them, I'd certainly suggest that you go from the beginning of the tune with them or not at all, so I'd strongly recommend that you alter that.

Considering that the variation is relatively little, the piece itself holds together very well and the vocal sample at the end is something that just put my whole day in perspective.

It's a tune in two parts - part 1 is the pumping bass part, then the second part is this 'tinned beat' that seems more artificial than most of the music I generally listen to and probably gives me a leaning towards the first part as the part to concentrate on for the most part, for making this tune stand out.

SessileNomad responds:

i understand how the second half could take away from the track as a whole track with the beats used in that part

the new track im making is def. going to be using the heavy distorted-sub-bass kicks, throughout the whole track

im glad you lied it, for the most part, peace out

I <3 1980s :)

Well, this is very 1980s and I can certainly hear a few other tunes creeping in here - In fact, it sounds a little like the Bloodhound Gang's "Bad Touch", but slowed down. It might just be me however...

I'm not sure about the volume of the first batch of synthesised horns that you brought in, as they kind of blew me away, so I suffered a little at that. Perhaps with a little extra tweaking, you'd end up with a much better piece.

Still, it's a nice loop and I look forward to other pieces from your new album.

Soundgasm responds:

Thanks, I'm an amature at mixing but I'll try to get those horns to fit in or change the synth voice.

If you insist!

Overall, I like this.

Those lower brass notes stand out too much for my liking and although I can see why you put them in as part of the melody, the brass just seems to let it down somewhat.

From 00.10 to 00.19 my very minor criticism would be that the brass mimics the backing too closely without being in harmony. Personally I would go one way or another.

00:30 to 00:40 is just beautiful though, I could listen to that on loop.

Thanks for the review, I'm glad you liked it.

The brass samples really disappoint me.

I'm relatively proud of this one I guess.

Good tempo

A rather nicely paced piece with what sounds like a glass bottle xylophone playing some of the solos. A rather different and interesting instrument to play along with.

I think that the way the whole piece fits together, with a great deal of variation and a not very overpowering bass beat and drums, you really have got something to build on here for other pieces. I'd have said it was more ambient than D&B, but that's your decision.

If you're gunning for it being a D&B piece, I'd suggest that you increase the power of the drums. I'd also do away with that single note solo that was in there - you're better than that, play to your strengths.

Damn, I hope I didn't lose on or two points for categorizing the song unproperly? Anyway, thanks for the feedback, I now understand that the fade out was a bad idea. Although I don't do much fade-outs in my songs, this must have been the wrong song to use one in.

Like a summer cartoon

It reminds me of some of the short animation sequences I have seen; bright sunshine, fluffy bunnies, bubbling stream, big majestic trees - usually shown as a contrast before moving on to something darker.

It is quite simple - not too many layers in the music that I can hear - but I find that quite charming, part of that playful air.

True, it could be longer, but I think that is a matter of context. Stand alone, I would make it longer, but if it were backing for a visual of some description it is fine.

My only criticism is that the strings come on a little strong for my tastes in comparison to the opening piano. That could be something is simple as a slight volume adjustment for that part though, so nothing major.

loansindi responds:

Oh wow I missed responding to this. Whoops.

Anyway, thanks for the review. It definitely is pretty straightforward. I still think this is a fun little piece for what it is.

Not bad at all

Some nice stuff that you've come up with, but I think that a little bit of the vocals is lost with taking them out of context. A shame, but that's just the way I feel about demo reels.

Some good voices there - did you add the music and sound effects yourself, or were these taken from the final cuts that the artists used to present their own flash work?

I think that you've got one of the better ranges on Newgrounds and you're capable of producing a measured and breathtaking performance. The one real question that remains is how's your thinking on the fly?

Rabidssquirrel responds:

Thanks a bunch for the review, Mr.Coop!

I'm not sure what you mean when you say that a bit of the vocals are lost with taking them out of context. If , when you read this, you could send me a pm highlighting what you mean I'd be very greatful.

I did indeed add the music and sound effects myself, and all of these little lines were the result of hitting record and waiting on myself to think of a voice to use and something to say. Freestyle, if you will, then cut and trim. I suppose this would have to say how my thinking on the fly is? lol

Thanks for the range compliment :) Self-confidence ftw. And that a major compliment which I also thank you for.

Thanks again for the review!

INteresting music box

Certainly a piece that is full of suspense and takes the listener to other places while listening - perhaps the jungles of South America, where who knows what sort of secret treasures will be waiting for the Indiana Jones type person to come along and try to take them away.

Of course, when the track fades in the middle, the 'music box' plucked metal sound that you get going sounds really creepy and it makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand on end really well. Congratulations.

la-yinn responds:

Haha, a music box eh?

It was partially my intention to characterize old civilisations in a dark and spooky way, so I'm very glad that you mentioned the jungles of South America, hehe. It's good to know people can visualize things on my music.

Thanks for the review!

Very nice

I think that this started off a little slowly, but soon made up for it - the basic sound that you've got going to pace the track just sounds a little boring in the first minute or so - perhaps try just changing something a little in that, before it fizzes out and passes to the piano, becoming a firm backing piece.

I think that you've got a good sounding piece and this can only really be helped by a few things - making it a better loop for starters would certainly help, especially cutting down the intro for the second time around if that's possible at all.

Stopping the melody and the counter melody, allowing the bass solo was good, but you didn't capitalise on it - it deserved to do more, then it just fades out to the ending, which was a shame. Ram that home with some great bass samples and then bring back the melody and counter melody.

[Review Request Club]

p4c responds:

yeah i think that the ending really didn't do the song justice, and hte intro was extended a bit for if the song were longer and to be integrated into a dj set. i think it was varied enough that it isn't a bore, so i think i'll keep it ;) i also wasnt intending for this to loop--the audio portal has moved away from being the tools of flash users to its own autonomous music portal--so i intend it to be a song in itself and thats how i plan to keep it.

thanks for the review!

Gentlemen, we march to war!

A nicely morbid tune, this has a deep sense of foreboding for the war that seems inevitable, as I get a deep sense of troops being mobilised and making their way to a field of strife, ready to fight for what they believe. Though with a name like Imperium, they could just be mobilising to crush some sort of rebellion under their mighty heels.

A good steady drum beat, very reminiscent of the US Civil War / War of Independence, with the drummer boys keeping the army's marching pace steady. I like the way that the futuristic beat comes in and takes over, symbolising the scale of Empires past, progressing to Empires future.

Thanks for so poetic review) I'm glad you like it)))

You know, I stopped shaving to think of something to write here. That worked out well.
