Playing with new material?

This track has a few elements that I've not heard you use before, so I'd have to say that makes it interesting to hear some of your development :P

A nice beat that you've constructed is always the best place to start, then you've added this weird sound that I can't really describe. You take it for a walk around the keys and give us the impression that it's not really something you have any great idea that you want go with it, as you end up back at the start.

If you could maybe use that instrument to take the tune somewhere else, that would sound better...

Nice vocal sample - you?

Soothing

This tune is one of your best pieces - you've gone back to the roots of the good piano / keyboards and have added in some nice guitar stuff to go with it.

A good beat, that doesn't get carried away with the track - some tracks that start off like this allow the beat to get carried away, while you allow such a subtle beat to call the tune, keeping it all in check, which is what percussion is all about.

It loops well, as well, which is a really nice thing - such a long track doesn't require a loop in my opinion, but this has both bases covered.

Great piano, as always

Kind of a futuristic sounding piece this, but I think that the loud, deep part of the track sounds rough with static when you add that - I'm not sure why, but it doesn't make the track sound finished to me.

Still, the overall effect is nice, especially the parts where you added the vocal sample at the end. That I wasn't expecting and it added a nice element to your tunes that I've not heard before.

Good sound

Space travel? That's the main image I get... either that or a game of WipeOut, as that's the sort of fast paced game that this needs to be a part of. It practically yearns to be there.

The build up of this track is short and very effective, with the way that the extra instruments get added almost one after the other. I liked the way that you broke that chain by effectively crashing the tune after the second cycle.

As an improvement, I'd consider knocking off the beat for a cycle and having the synth play around for a little, before getting reigned back in by the beat.

Yes, space travel ;) Thanks for coming with suggestions!

Nice beat

I'm not so sure aboput the vocal sampling on this track, but the beat and the melody you've got going with this track are the definate best parts of this track.

Why would a weighted companion cube ever threaten to stab me?!

The only thing about the beat is that it's a little repetitive and if you added more variation, you could alter it up, not just by changing the sounds of the tune, but you could add another vocal sample "that does not mean you should not be nice to your companion cube", for example.

Someone has yet to play portal :O

thanks for the review.

Awesome

This track has the fine qualities of longevity, imagination and great presentation. Yopu've paid great attention to detail and must have spent a good long while arranging this.

3 weeks is an amazing figure of time spent, to give such a wonderful, calming piece. Very Zen, I must say.

Where do you get your inspiration from? Do you just go out there and grab a few random instruments in the music program and mess around until you find a base sound that you like, then develop it? Or do you get the idea in your head for something as massive as this tune, then get it down onto the computer ASAP?

Good length, a great way of showing some vivid imagery in my mind, as I've got quite a few pictures swimming around my head right now. Most of them involve diving to about 2-3 metres below the surface of the Mediteranean and swimming amongst the coral reefs.

Nice

A little on the repetitive side, but i do really like the crowd sounds that you added at the start - almost Ibiza in it's simplicity, but I feel that it's not quite got enough bass to take care of that particular island paradise for sexually transmitted disease trading :P

The melody was quite nice, with some sort of wierd effect over the notes, which tended to affect my enjoyment of the track in a negative way. After about 3 plays, I'm beginning to see why I'm not exactly a fan of this type of music. It's difficult to concentrate on, so would be ideal as a concentration breaking track on some sort of puzzle game.

Thanks for the review, you made some good points. They've been noted, and hopefully, when I can be bothered to get off my fat lazy ass (lol stereotype, I'm not really fat =P) I'll be able to make this a bit better.
Cheers.

Quite a range of speeds.

This piece certainly exemplifies the wide range of tempos available on your music composing programme. I'm impressed.

I think that you would have been better occupied keeping the range of tempos shorter and concentrating more on the range of notes that you've used instead. That would have made for a much more consistent track, which doesn't get lost with the almost constantly changing speed.

With regards to the drum beat, I would not have increased the beat of the bass drum - try working with that, to keep the origin of the track as a marker for the beat and see how that one plays out.

You can do wonders with FL if you know how to do it. It's a very dynamic program :D

There are only two speed changes throughout the song >_>; Granted, the song's very short, so maybe it's too much.

Drums were never my forte :P

Thanks for the review!

Evanescence

This tune takes a while to get going from the piano intorduction, but when the guitars came in, you didn't dissapoint. What I felt that was missing here was the length of the guitar piece and maybe some vocals.

The guitar seems to be the dominant force of the track, when it starts, taking over nicely from the piano. After the guitar and drums stop, the piano sets in again, but it feels like you've dominated the track with the piano, which is essentially overkill.

Still, a very nice track, if only for more guitar playing.

GronmonSE responds:

Can't the guitar, the drums, and the piano just all get along? *shot for bad joke*

I didn't intend to have one instrument dominate the track, rather, set a mood with the piano and finish it off with the guitar.

Thanks for the review!

Not enough urgency...

For this piece to sound like an alarm, you really do need to ratchett up the tempo and maybe even increase the pitch of the notes. Reminds me more of people trying to escape from a prison, for example.

Nice length on this tune and a good use of the scales in this particular tune. It didn't really loop that well, which was dissapointing. More work on that is definately required, but with the fact that the tune is 3 minutes long, you've given us a chance to forget about it between loops.

More variation is a must for a track this long.

You know, I stopped shaving to think of something to write here. That worked out well.
