Interesting

This song is off the wall, but it certainly has it's own wide range of elements. It sounds great as an 8-bit piece until you get as far as the vocal sampling.

After that, it gets a little weird, so we have to maybe stop and look at the positive points of the previous. The samples were good, but I'm just not entirely sure that they fit in this particular piece, unless you're gunning for the obscure end of the market.

I'd add to the length of the 8-bit sounding part, allowing you to expand upon it, adding more variation and getting it sorted towards a piece that could be used as a near-endless loop in a video game.

sorry, but i am definately going for obscure in this song

what, you couldnt imagine those vocals playing over and over in a video game?

So it does not loop...

An interesting piece, which thankfully I haven't had to review when I've been around at my girlfriend's

The extremes of the sides of this metaphorical coin aren't apparent here. I would not have guessed that you were aiming for Purgatory, Heaven and Hell with this piece at all. Heaven doesn't sound happy enough, and Hell does not sound as if it is that bad... Might have to take a holiday there next year.

As things go, I would consider adding more harps and woodwind to the ballad of Heaven and much more bass and percussion to Hell - these tend to signify strongly the divide.

Well, I was going for a more passive feel to it. Not strong, just mellow. Thats why its not all that strong.

Hypnotic

A beautiful piece, very much like what you would get in a relaxation or meditation mix. I can see the connection to the title and the story; the slight mournfulness at the start, tentativeness and growing energy as things progress, and later, the high strings putting me in mind of dancing waves, the harp is like the sunlight on the water, while the low strings remind me of the sweeping vastness of the ocean. Majestic.

The only point I can think of in terms of possible future improvement, is that if this (or indeed, any future piece in this style) were to be used in meditation or relaxation, for which it seems so well fitted, then it could be longer. Many relaxation or meditation pieces that I have come across, even old classical ones that are used for that purpose, can be anything from 4 minutes to 20 minutes long. At least on Newgrounds, having it on a loop helps to remedy that somewhat. ;)

Lovely.

Suspended-3rd-Chord responds:

cheers for the review :D I'm glad you like this one and I like your imagery that ties along with the track and story. I completely agree with you that relaxtion pieces could be longer- one of my main struggles is length. I try to make my stuff adequately lengthy and put out my ideas thoroughly without trying to ruin the feel of the track, and try not to stray into two many different themes. So I'll continue to work on that.

Thanks for the 9 and another good review Coop!

A little short

This sounds like a nicely developed introduction to a jazz track. I want to see it taken about another 2 minutes, to see where the instruments go. The addition of a piano would be nice, as it always helps to give the piece something when Jazz is involved - gives you options with a solo as well.

Surprisingly, as the track contains maybe 2 loops, it doesn't loop all that well, which surprised me. Have a listen to the last few seconds and you notice the gap, so a spot of work to conceal that would be nice.

Cheers. I'll change it to a song lol

Zelda!

You've given us a nice remix here - I've not heard any Legend of Zelda tracks of this like before and you've pretty much nailled it with the guitar.

The drums were spot on, with the tempo and setup - the only thing I felt was wrong was their volume. If you made them slightly quieter, you'd be able to hear the tune itself better. Some of the instruments in the background are only quiet, so the volume of the drums drowns them out.

Playing with new material?

This track has a few elements that I've not heard you use before, so I'd have to say that makes it interesting to hear some of your development :P

A nice beat that you've constructed is always the best place to start, then you've added this weird sound that I can't really describe. You take it for a walk around the keys and give us the impression that it's not really something you have any great idea that you want go with it, as you end up back at the start.

If you could maybe use that instrument to take the tune somewhere else, that would sound better...

Nice vocal sample - you?

Soothing

This tune is one of your best pieces - you've gone back to the roots of the good piano / keyboards and have added in some nice guitar stuff to go with it.

A good beat, that doesn't get carried away with the track - some tracks that start off like this allow the beat to get carried away, while you allow such a subtle beat to call the tune, keeping it all in check, which is what percussion is all about.

It loops well, as well, which is a really nice thing - such a long track doesn't require a loop in my opinion, but this has both bases covered.

Great piano, as always

Kind of a futuristic sounding piece this, but I think that the loud, deep part of the track sounds rough with static when you add that - I'm not sure why, but it doesn't make the track sound finished to me.

Still, the overall effect is nice, especially the parts where you added the vocal sample at the end. That I wasn't expecting and it added a nice element to your tunes that I've not heard before.

Good sound

Space travel? That's the main image I get... either that or a game of WipeOut, as that's the sort of fast paced game that this needs to be a part of. It practically yearns to be there.

The build up of this track is short and very effective, with the way that the extra instruments get added almost one after the other. I liked the way that you broke that chain by effectively crashing the tune after the second cycle.

As an improvement, I'd consider knocking off the beat for a cycle and having the synth play around for a little, before getting reigned back in by the beat.

Assios responds:

Yes, space travel ;) Thanks for coming with suggestions!

Nice beat

I'm not so sure aboput the vocal sampling on this track, but the beat and the melody you've got going with this track are the definate best parts of this track.

Why would a weighted companion cube ever threaten to stab me?!

The only thing about the beat is that it's a little repetitive and if you added more variation, you could alter it up, not just by changing the sounds of the tune, but you could add another vocal sample "that does not mean you should not be nice to your companion cube", for example.

Someone has yet to play portal :O

thanks for the review.

You know, I stopped shaving to think of something to write here. That worked out well.
