Freeze Frame

I think that the main issue that this image has gone through a bit of a time warp - the debris off the tree has been thrown too far in the one instant when the lightning bolt strikes, for my liking.

I love the soft-focus effect that you've used, it really brings a sharper impression to the serpent / Naga / Yuan-ti in the foreground. It's almost a shame that it appears to have mammalian skin, rather than the reptilian scales that you would expect from something that looks like a snake.

Still, a very impressive level of detail all around.

I guess with the lightning struck tree I was just trying to get that explosive power you have by the time you reach that last strike (lightning often strikes many times in one spot over a fraction of a second), just before the tree were to be set on fire. Very difficult to capture in any medium I suppose.

I would definitely be adding more detail to the snake were I to redo this or reuse the character. Probably spines, scales and the like. :)

Thanks for the review.

One of my favourites

A great little piece that certainly captures the essence of motherhood with the dragons looking so graceful and yet ready to cause some serious damage, as the myths and legends would suggest.

The best part of this piece is the background, as you've clearly spent a long time looking into making the most of the cliff-face and the starlight. The moon peaking out from behind the partial cloud cover and the mother's tail just goes to show how you've concentrated on it as a whole.

Perhaps we need to see the baby a few years after the creation of this piece, to see how it is getting on.

Thanks!!

Maybe I will do the baby when it is older, or perhaps its siblings... not sure if I will do another pencil study or a digital piece though.

A nice job

It's not a bad paint job, but it does go a little fuzzy in places (Very technical term there :P) and some of the quality may have been lost in the rendering process.

Kudos to Mindchamber for the original piece and your vision to alter is subtly this way. I can certainly see this beast winning some friends among the rest of the Autobots in their brightly coloured 1980s technicolour dreamland.

Any more pimped Transformers that you've got your eyes on taking for a trip to the paint shop?

PsychoGoldfish responds:

yeah I think the jpg compression is a little high on the image resize... if you check it out full size it's WAY cleaner

You know, I stopped shaving to think of something to write here. That worked out well.
