You know, I stopped shaving to think of something to write here. That worked out well.

Newgrounds London 09!

Posted by Coop - January 17th, 2009

Woo! I'm back home, after the most awesome day out that I've ever experienced. I have shaken hands with greatness, shared anecdotes with pure genius and talked at length to a few of my Newgrounds Idols.

So all in all, it was certainly worth getting out of bed at 0700 this morning. I've been through the wonderful system of British transport that is the rail system and got to London Waterloo in one piece, eventually meeting up with Dangan and Lost-Chances, who were gathering at the same station, before moving to the London Eye to meet with the rest of the crew.

En route from the station, we considered how we would make ourselves known to the NG faithful. It was decided that if we could not spot anyone from NG, we would loudly declare "COCK JOKE!" and in theory, they would all respond, by loosely gathering.

Fortunately, they were all there and I proceeded to meet such awesome users as Andersson, Cally, Kirk-Cocaine, The-Swain and Luis amongst others. Then I was introduced to the mighty, but humble, TomFulp, by Swain, who thankfully took the picture below :)

As some of you know, I've been voted 2008's most underrated user, as according to some 41 users on this very site. Now that couldn't have gone by without some sort of material award. So, cue me with one tin of baked beans, one can of gold spray paint and one Newgrounds Sticker. Add the three together and I get one underrated prize that I can get presented with by the Fulpster. He was somewhat bemused by this, but he went with it, before we hit NAMCO!

Bumper cars, bowling, pool, drinking. We did them all. A very good day was had, involving meeting new people, mostly Moderators. I now fear EyeLovePoozy - he's huge, NEVR and BBM are a great laugh, although I did only get to see NEVR for about half an hour.

Next year guys, I think I'm going to have to stop over.

My jealousy is overwhelming me... D:

You're not really jealous yet - I have since eaten the beans and I would like to declare that they were scrumptious

Sounds like you had a great time! If only I lived around there...

Heh, one day I'll go there. One day... =)

That's the spirit - I travelled about 120 miles to be there and it was worth every last inch that I went.

Preparation is the key, so you'll have plenty of opportunities.

Damn, this makes me wish I was there, although the "COCK JOKE!" part made me go "Ehhhhhhh...."

How can you find a bunch of Newgrounders on a chilly London Afternoon? You can't look for the T-Shirts, as everyone's wearing big coats. Fortunately, there were plenty of people standing around whose faces I recognised, so we ambled over.

According to Dangan, you, me and Andersson all look somewhat alike.

No one gives a fuck about how awesome the meet was.

*cries*

:C

Yeah, it would have been more awesome with you - maybe I'll be turning up to the next one in the States.

"According to Dangan, you, me and Andersson all look somewhat alike."

Really? Has Dangan ever seen my face?

Apparently so, but this was confirmed by Andersson. My response was that yeah, if you say that we all have brown hair and if Bahamut took off his glasses

i may very well go next year...

Excellent - there were at least 50 people there this year and I hope to see many more next time around, as I will be back.

Glad you enjoyed it, and we were all bemused by the can with a sticker on it. Still am :(

Search "Awards" on the BBS and you'll get the Newgrounds BBS Awards winners thread 2008 - I was on there for the Most Underrated user. I decided that with Tom coming around for the fun, I had to do something ridiculous!

Was dear Bahamut or Afro_Stud there.

Bahamut was unable to justify the funding spend for it, as he's back in London really soon to see relatives.

Afro_Stud didn't leave the computer to be sociable, whatever could you mean, thinking such appalling fantasies!

Oh it sounds awesome...
If only I was older, had money, and lived near there...

Well, you will gradually get older and will come into more money, when you get either a job, or a better paid one, at least.

As for living closer, next year, if you check out the thread in advance, you might be able to snaffle a place in the Hotel with the Newgrounds Staff, like Andersson did ;)

Well yeah, attending a NG meeting may be in my huge to-do list... But I don't see that happening in a near future.

Anyway, thanks for the advice (or whatever it was)

Don't forget, I knew about the Newgrounds meets for 2005, 06 and 07 before I actually went to one in 09.

Plenty of time for you to get sorted for one.

Awesome! Btw, who are the people in the background?

I... can't... remember :$

Still, I know that the two women are just random members of the unsuspecting British Public - the two guys perescoping from mine and Tom's heads are as yet unidentified.

You were really a lot of fun! It's a shame I didn't get a chance to talk to you more... though you and Mike convinced me to go on the bumper cars which ended up being painfully fun. :P

Bumper cars are always worth the pain.

Next year, we need a bouncy castle!

I should've gone, would've been great to actually meet His Fulpness. Next year hopefully >,<

Yeah, you should have gone, it would have been absolutely brilliant. What we need to learn from this is that while everything has grown exponentially in 4 short years for the NG meet, it's making sure that the interest is sustained for next year.

Also, it's getting quite crowded, from what I was reading on Luis' page, so maybe it's time to go the whole hog, hire out a hotel for the week and have the 1st anual NG Con!

It looks like you had a lot of fun with them :). Hopefully I will be able to come in London and meet you guys.

*Come to London - you never know how many people who love that sort of double entendre will be watching.

I'd love to see more people turn up for these events, as they're absolutely awesome.

You ate the beans?!

D:

Hopefully I'll be stopping around when the next meet comes around too.

Yes, the official snack food of Newgrounds is now consumed. I had them with chips, which was just what I needed after returning home from an awesome meet up :)

Makes me wish there were enough NG users in Sydney to have a meet up. I only know of Shaun and HTID that would be there, and myself. Of course, i could always have a 2 person meet up...

*starts plotting*

That was how the first London one got going - Luis and Mogly in a hotel room. This year, we had at least 63 people turn up. Like I said in the aftermath thread, we're getting towards convention population now :P

lol, "cockjoke!" Seems a fitting call for such a gathering. Sounds like you guys had an awesome time.
I hope attend a meet-up someday, if one pops up within reasonable driving distance of my home.

Well, there's likely to be some sort of get togethers that occur in the North East of the USA - we had an awesome time and that will start to get some serious friendships going - I think I've gone from strength to strength, even fro mthe few guys that I had a good chat to while I was there.

oh shit it was cos you were underrated BBS user 08! i thought it was just because you were awesome

Well, it's because I'm awesome as well...

Also you need to do a pose where you're thrusting the beans at the camera with a sort of promo "EAT NEWGROUNDS BEANS AND EXPERIENCE VICTORY" expression on your face.

I might have to do that... I think I've got another can of beans around somewhere and I can always get a Newgrounds Sticker from the collection :P

"Woe to you, oh Earth and Sea, for the Devil sends the beast with Wrath."
Iron Maiden rocks!

Yes they do.
